Lantern Insurance and IAG staff combine to scout new litter pits on Auckland’s Rangitoto Island
On Friday 25 November a team of staff from insurers Lantern Insurance and IAG joined our crew for a clean-up of Auckland’s Rangitoto Island. With plenty of experience scouring Auckland’s beaches for trash -- this is not the first time we’ve worked with Lantern and IAG staff -- the team joined us to check out stretches of shoreline on the island’s northern coast that had not previously been scouted by our crew.
Not only did the volunteers pick up an impressive amount of rubbish -- over 800 litres in total -- from these heavily affected shores, they also helped us with planning for next week’s Love your Coast Rangitoto Island clean-up.
Through hands-on action like this over our past few years of operation we’ve found this to be an excellent, practical, fun way for organisations and their employees to learn about how litter from Auckland’s streets flows out through our storm water system and affects coastlines on uninhabited islands like Rangitoto.
